Brief notes on the history of this site and what is happening behind the scenes.

Before May 7, 2005
Moved to the neighbourhood. Lived it. Loved it. Got to know some people and found out I am not the only one who wants to make Grist Mill a better place to live. One common thread.... HOW? The question everyone had. How can we make Grist Mill a better place to live? Let's find out.

May 7, 2005
Website built in one 6 hour sitting. Corrections and additions are imminent, but the start was there.

May 9, 2005
Website expanded, plans for public unveiling in the works. Need proofing and spell check. If anyone is reading this and has found corrections needed, please mail to:
grist-mill@lycos.com. Also read thoroughly through the Town of EG website (located here). Budget highlights for the town are located here.

Contacted Steve Castrucci from the Town of EG regarding The Community Action Advisory Committee. (More info on the committee can be found here). Made arrangements to attend the next meeting on May 30th at 7:00pm. Location EG Civic Centre, to discuss concerns. If anyone has specific topics they would like addressed or would also be interested in attending please mail to:
grist-mill@lycos.com

Contacted Joanne Komeau from the Town of EG regarding Grist Mill Park. Introduced myself and let her know that I was interested in finding out more information on planned improvements to the park. The budget highlights outlined on the Town of EG website state: Repair of play structures at various park locations (Phase 1) are planned. Would this include Grist Mill Park? Joanne said that she would find out more details and get back to me.

Received a call from Rick Leclair, Director of Parks and Recreation to discuss Grist Mill Park. The park is not slated for any upgrades this year. However any maintenance of the existing playground or park features will be considered on an ongoing basis. A link to the website page for Grist Mill Park (found here) was sent to Rick. He indicated that this would be passed on to those responsible for park maintenance, and clean-up issues addressed. I also addressed concerns of night time activities in the park and Rick suggested that the meeting I am attending with the Community Action Advisory Committee, on May 30, was the best place to start. The flyers to be posted in the neighbourhood to let community residents know about this website were created today.

May 16, 2005
Received an e-mail from Councillor Cathy Morton, who told me that she had looked over the pictures of Grist Mill Park on this website, and was going to speak with other members of Council and the Parks Department to get the park cleaned up. Cathy also invited me to attend the May 30th meeting where these issues would be addressed. I wrote back thanking her for her planned action on cleaning the park and informing her I had spoken with Steve Castrucci, and that I was planning on attending the meeting.

May 19, 2005
Posted first tear-off flyers on local mailboxes to announce the site.

May 20, 2005
Planned first public meeting to be held in Grist Mill Park on Sunday May29th at 7:00pm. The results from this meeting will be taken to the Community Action Advisory Committee meeting on May 30th at 7:00pm.

May 22, 2005
5 people so far joined the mailing list to keep informed of what's happening in the community. Working off of public suggestions, pages were added to the site where local residents can promote their own local and home based businesses as well as garage / yard sales and tems for sale.

May 26, 2005
Created hand-out flyers to distribute in the community to make more people aware of the website. Pampered Chef was the first home based business to be listed in the Local Business section of the site.

May 28, 2005
Met many neighbours walking around the community, all of who gave great support for the site and the ideas behind getting the community involved. Handed out flyers and many took additional flyers to give to their neighbours. If anyone would like some flyers to distribute, please do not hesitate to ask. Just mail grist-mill@lycos.com and some will be dropped off at your house.

May 29, 2005
